Claro, with its famous Benedictine convent of Santa Maria Assunta, lies at the foot of the majestic Piz Claro, one of the most famous and highest mountain peaks in Canton Ticino.
It takes about two hours to get to Claro from Zurich. Thanks to the NEAT, Claro is also easily accessible by public transport. From Bellinzona railway station there is a bus to Claro every 30 minutes (17 minutes).
Claro, with its 2,500 inhabitants, has all the shopping facilities that a small regional centre can offer: Coop, Denner, bakery, butcher's, pharmacy, post office, bank and restaurants, and thanks to its central location it offers many excursion possibilities.
Lugano and Locarno can be reached in a good 30 minutes. With the Misox and the Calanca Valley, two well-known Grisons valleys are in the immediate vicinity.
